Don’t look now, but energy prices are on the rise again. While we sincerely hope that the cost of heating oil and natural gas do not approach the record high levels we experienced last year, there’s just no telling how much we will be paying to heat our homes next winter.
Which makes it more important than ever to do all that we can to make our homes more energy efficient. If we can reduce your energy use by 40% while fuel prices rise 40%, we can at least stay even!
The problem many homeowners face is not knowing where to start. Should we add insulation to the attic? The walls? Replace drafty windows? Buy new doors? All of these projects will improve a home’s efficiency. But who can afford to tackle them all at once? We need to prioritize which home improvement will provide the best return on investment — the “biggest bang for our buck.”
Now there is a way to find out which home weatherization project is the best for any given home. A professional “Home Energy Audit” provides a thorough examination of a home that reveals where energy loss is occurring, and at what level.
Here at A&A Services, our Home Energy Audits are remarkably comprehensive, and include such sophisticated procedures as a “door blower test” in which we overpressurize the interior of a home in order to unmask hidden “leak points.”
Another test we run is an infrared scan that shows “hot spots” where energy is escaping, even if it is through solid walls!
The result of our Home Energy Audit is a written report that shows where a home is well insulated, and where corrective action needs to be taken. Decisions can then be made on how to proceed in order to make the changes necessary to reduce energy loss, and cut energy bills.
