The EPA has setup new rules for all contractors who perform residential renovations.

This new law affects any residential contractor hired to renovate, repair or paint a home built before 1978.

If the surfaces are more than 6 square feet per room on the interior or 20 square feet on the exterior of the home and it tests positive for lead, the contractor must follow the EPA's guide for lead safe renovation.

A & A Services has been a licensed delead contractor in the Commonwealth of MA since 1990 and has been practicing lead safe renovation work since that time. When this RRP rule came into effect, April 22, 2010 many of our colleagues called for help on how to comply with this law and how to set up containments. At this point an idea was hatched to create a training video for the residential construction industry.

Because of our experience in the lead paint industry, we put together a 90-minute DVD with great visual tools to help contractors comply with these new rules.

So how does this affect you?

ALL CONTRACTORS MUST:

1. Have completed an all-day training seminar and received a certificate of completion
2. Be registered with EPA or Commonwealth of MA contractors must be registered with the state
3. Have HEPA filtered vacuums and equipment
4. Fill out documents, whether there is lead or no lead on pre-1978 homes
5. Distribute a brochure called, "Renovate Right"
6. Follow strict cleaning guidelines and document their findings
7. All documentation must be supplied to the owner within 30 days of completion of the job

If contractors do not comply with the above guidelines, they can be fined up to $37,500 per violation.
