Inefficient Windows

Experiencing high heat bills because of old, inefficient windows? There are many individual situations that lead to this problem. These include single panes of glass, old inefficient storm windows, un-insulated window weight pockets, or windows out of square causing drafts and discomfort. Single strength glass, or for that matter, low quality double pane windows lose heat in the winter and lose cooling in the summer through a process called radiation. This is the transfer of heat through the glass, whether it is heat escaping your home in winter or heat penetrating your home in summer.

The solution to these problems in most cases is to replace the windows. This is just what you wanted to hear, right? If this is the direction you decide to go, here are some suggestions to look for:

  1. A quality constructed window
  2. A true lifetime warranty (not pro-rated)
  3. A company that will stand behind their workmanship
  4. A contractor that insulates the window weight pockets
  5. A contractor that properly seals the windows (caulking) inside and out
  6. A contractor that is EPA certified for lead safe work, if your home was built before 1978
  7. Invest in a glass package that will truly save on your fuel bills. I feel it is worth saying here, "You get what your pay for." Think about it. Glass is approximately 80% of your window and this is where you lose most of your heating and cooling dollars. If you invest in a quality constructed window, I guarantee this investment will pay you back over time.

Good luck with your search for windows and I would love the opportunity to help you in that search.
