Gable Vents and How They Affect Your Roof

Monday, September 19th, 2016 by Stefanie Howlett
Older homes—and there are many in our historic New England towns such as Topsfield, Boxford and Newburyport—have existing gable vents which are the rectangle-shaped ones on the ends of homes. Some of these vents are round or half round. Their purpose is to cross ventilate when the wind is blowing in one direction. That is the direction the air will pull. This is the same process as the ridge and soffit venting.
Some gable vents may not release enough ventilation. We investigate such a problem by inspecting the attic and talking with the homeowner about how long their current roof has lasted. By inspecting the attic, we look for signs of moisture and damage and can access the severity of the situation then.
If you have gable vents in your home and are noticing wear and tear to your roof, give us a call today for a free estimate!
