Large Replacement-Window Firms Ordered to Stop False Energy Claims

“Five companies that sell replacement windows agreed to stop making ‘exaggerated and unsupported’ claims about their products. energy efficiency as part of a settlement announced Wednesday by the Federal Trade Commission.” (Washington Post Article)

All of these companies were accused of making false claims about their windows. Some of the companies promised a 50% energy savings on some of their advertising. Although with the right replacement windows you will save lots of energy, it is impossible to make lofty promises like these companies did. Finding a good contractor can be a difficult thing to do sometimes.

Why the false claims in the first place?

Although there are false claims made about it, keeping your home more energy efficient can indeed be a great way to save money on rising fuel costs. Home energy efficiency is a very competitive market.
