Why Roof Ventilation is Critical

Monday, June 27th, 2016 by Chris Zorzy
Fascia boards, which are a type of roof trim that is commonly used on houses, over time can become rotted in certain areas and begin to allow water inside your home. And, as we know so well by living in New England, sitting water can equal mold and rot, among other horrible things.
A common cause of rotting fascia boards, is improper roof ventilation. You need this in order to allow heat and moisture to escape from your attic. When heat or moisture can’t escape your attic, it creates a perfect atmosphere for water buildup. Over time, it will cause mold, rot roof decks, and small leaks from water vapor condensation on cold roof decks. With proper venting, moisture and warm air is vented to keep the bottom side of the roof deck cool.
One way to know if you have rot or a failing roof is by simply going outside and looking up. Take a walk to the curb and look for signs such as buckled or curled shingles, damaged flashing, attic mold, and/or ice dams (during the winter months). If you spot any of these signs, call us today for a free estimate. With the warm weather now fully arrived in New England, today is a great time to get your roof inspected by one of our professionals. Call us between 8:30 am–5 pm Monday–Friday at 978-712-2772 to set up a free estimate.
