Window Replacement in Beverly, MA

Challenge

A previous customer of A&A Services reached back out to us to replace a few double-hung vinyl windows around their property.

A two-story white house with dark shutters and a concrete foundation is shown on a cloudy day, surrounded by sparse grass and a few bushes.

Solution

Our President and salesman, Chris, headed over to Beverly to give our customer an estimate for replacing 9 double-hung windows around their home. After arriving and discussing all the window options we have available with our clients, they decided they would replace their old windows with vinyl Sunrise Vanguard Series double-hung windows. All Sunrise Vanguard double-hung windows come with saftey latches, one of the lowest air infiltration rates in the industry, high-impact vinyl that will stand up to the elements, and the ability to tilt in for easy cleaning of the interior and exterior of the glass, even on the second story of the home. Next, after deciding which model of windows they wanted, with white exterior trim to match the siding on their home, Chris needed to take measurements of the windows. 6 of the windows had the same dimensions, but there were 3 windows that had slightly smaller frames than the rest. Chris sent the measurements off to the shop and had the windows made to fit the specifications of the home.

When the custom-sized windows came into the shop, the crew headed over the Beverly to install them in our customer’s home. Before they began, the crew needed to clean the work area and lay down protection for the interior of the home. After protecting the home, the crew began by scoring away the interior stops and sashes with a sharp multi-tool to minimize any damage to the paint around the windows. After getting the existing stops off of the frame, the crew needed to check for window weight pockets which are common in older windows. They were not present for this particular job, but if window weight pockets exist, the crew insulates them properly before going any further. Next, the crew needed to caulk the exterior sill and stops in order to ensure a proper seal once the windows were slid into place. After applying caulking, the crew shimmed and installed the windows into their frames, adding insulation in the small gap between the window and the frame. After re-installing the existing stops with new brass screws and rings, the crew then caulked the stops to ensure that they too are properly sealed and insulated. After that, the crew installed the exterior vinyl trim on the window. While installing the trim, the crew also needed to re-cap our customers sills with aluminum capping, which helps protect the sills from any water damage. Once the exterior portion of the installation was complete, the crew vacuumed the inside of the home and cleaned the interior and exterior of the windows, and the job was complete.

I chose A&A Services for a roof replacement. Rick came out to provide the initial estimate and from then on guided me through the whole process. He was great to work with. No pressure at any time and I was notified every step of the way. No surprises. Aurel and the roofing crew were great too! My roof looks beautiful and more importantly, my house is dry inside!
