Window Replacement Rescue: Fixing a Botched Install in Peabody, MA

How We Helped a Homeowner Fix a Botched Install and Restore Their Peace of Mind

At A&A Services, we don’t typically take on projects where we have to clean up after another contractor’s mistakes—but every now and then, we come across a situation where we know we can make a real difference.

Not long ago, a homeowner in Peabody gave us a call. They had just had a brand-new window installed, but the job had gone terribly wrong. They were looking to have the brand-new unit ripped out and replaced—because the original contractor had completely botched the install.

Now, that’s not something we hear every day. Our booking team flagged it right away and told the customer that someone from our leadership team would be reaching out directly. That’s when I stepped in.

I gave the customer a call and was upfront: “I don’t want to get stuck between you and another contractor, but if you truly need help, here’s how I’d approach this.” I told them I’d come out personally to assess the situation. If I thought we could fix it, I’d give them a rough price. If it made sense to move forward, we’d send one of our team members out to take care of the final measurements and order details.

They agreed, and I headed over.

When I arrived, I realized this wasn’t just a small window—this was a large new-construction-style unit: double-hung flankers on either side of a big picture window. It had new interior and exterior trim. And the install? It was shockingly poor. The original contractor had forced an oversized window into an opening that was clearly too small. The sliding flankers barely functioned, and it was obvious the window couldn’t be properly opened or cleaned. The homeowners had a beautiful backyard view and a pool, but couldn’t even enjoy it because of the window’s condition.

To make things worse (or maybe better), when the homeowner complained, the original contractor told them to just clean it from the outside and acted like that was perfectly normal—even though the windows barely opened. Thankfully, after enough back and forth, that contractor agreed to refund their money so they could find someone else to do it right.

That’s where we came in.

We replaced the window with the proper product, installed it correctly, and restored the function and look the customer was originally promised. They were thrilled—and I was happy we stepped in.

We don’t usually take on redo projects like this, but something about this situation made me want to help. I felt for the homeowner, and I knew we had the expertise to fix it. At the end of the day, we were able to turn a frustrating experience into a success story—and that’s what we’re here for.

I chose A&A Services for a roof replacement. Rick came out to provide the initial estimate and from then on guided me through the whole process. He was great to work with. No pressure at any time and I was notified every step of the way. No surprises. Aurel and the roofing crew were great too! My roof looks beautiful and more importantly, my house is dry inside! A&A did a very nice job at my house replacing the gutters and downspouts and the main roof and many smaller ones and also the garage roof. They came on time, did a professional job and cleaned up nice when the project was complete. I would definitely use them again.
